Winter is here!!
This winter, here in Chamonix Mont-Blanc, is set to be one of the more exciting. Covid put a halt to so many different activities and events in Chamonix but this year, with life returning to normal so is Chamonix! With all the ski areas opening including the Aiguille du Midi and the calendar filling up with events in Chamonix, it’s going to be a great season.
Christmas and New Year Events in Chamonix
The events in Chamonix for Christmas and New year this year will fill you full of joy.
Coming into the festive season, Chamonix has a lot to offer for the whole family. The Christmas village is definitely a place to enjoy the warm vibe and is guaranteed to get you in the true Christmas sprint. With lots of wooden stalls offering a large variety such as artisan food, drinks, arts and crafts, and gifts. All are located outside the main church in the centre of the town.
From 15/12/2022 till 03/01/2023, every day 2pm till 8pm, Place du Triangle de l’Amitie.
On the 24th December, you can also enjoy the Christmas parade which will take place in the main pedestrian street through Chamonix centre.
In the village of Les Houches you can experience a three-day show that will delight you with products and a festive laser show.
It will take place in the village centre from the 18th to 20th December 2022 from 5pm till 8pm.
During December there is a number of other different events and activities available:
- Film festival, Central Chamonix from 5pm to 11pm, 1st to 3rd December 2022.
- Dance show, 7pm til 9pm , Les Houches, 3rd December 2022
- Music by Charles Pasi, 8:30pm Central Chamonix, 7th December 2022
Alpine World Cup
Come February, we welcome back the World famous Kandahar Downhill event. This will include the main world cup and the junior bringing together the best of the best downhill skiers.
The Kandahar will take place in Les Houches. The tree-lined run starts with a steep black drop of 870 meters and is 3343 meters in length. It is all free access and there will be other stalls too.
The junior competition takes place from 6th – 8th of January followed by the world cup on the 4th February.
In January you can enjoy the Children’s film festival in Les Houches, designed for children of all ages, your little ones will enjoy a fun-filled evening.
January also brings the start of the family treasure hunt which take place throughout the season from Servoz through to Vallorcine.
Ice Hockey Events
Throughout the winter season you can enjoy many hockey games some taking place right in the
heart of Chamonix. The Pioneers are a very well know team in France and over the world.
You can find details about times, dates of matches and the history of the team on the Pioneers website.
There are lots of different activities throughout winter, including ice skating both indoors in Chamonix and outdoors in Les Houches. The outdoor ice rink also has curling you can give a go with
the whole family and friends.
Markets in Chamonix
As always the Farmers market takes place every Saturday morning in Chamonix where you can buy local products including fruit, vegetables and cheese.
There is a small market in Les Houches during the high season from 9am-12pm.
