Transport in Chamonix and beyond

Once you get to Chamonix, you don’t need a car to get around. Public transport in Chamonix is great, with everything well-connected with public transport, and we’ll give you tourist guest cards on arrival so that you can use it all for free.

Local buses

In winter, you can hop on the ski bus with your skis or snowboards and you’ll be dropped off directly at the ski lifts, while in summer the dedicated bike bus will carry you and your wheels straight to the mountain biking. Our property info files indicate where your nearest bus stop is, and we always try to leave an up-to-date bus timetable in your welcome pack too. The buses are free either with your lift pass or tourist guest card.

See more information about getting to the other ski areas in our pages about ski away days (Courmayeur, Megève & Verbier).

Local trains

You can also travel for free on the Mont Blanc Express between Servoz and Vallorcine when you use your tourist guest card. The local TER train which runs from neighbouring St Gervais to Vallorcine, where you can change for Martigny (Switzerland). We highly recommend it for skiing in Vallorcine and le Tour, as it is usually much quieter than the ski bus, and in summer you can also take your bikes on it (subject to demand). The Montenvers train is not included on the tourist guest cards, but it will be included when buy your summer Mont Blanc Multipass or winter Mont Blanc Unlimited lift passes.

See the latest bus and train timetables on the Tourist Office website here.

Parking

Most of our properties have parking, but if the apartment that you’ve booked doesn’t, then you’ll see the closest free and payable public parking on the maps we provide when you arrive. Often, you’ll benefit from a discount if you buy a weekly pass with your tourist guest card as well.

There is also parking at all of the lift areas in the valley, although be prepared for it to be busy during peak weeks.
