Walk to the ski lifts in Chamonix
Ten minutes on foot changes the shape of the day. No queue for the lift car park, no digging the car out, and you can come back for lunch or drop a layer without it being a trip. If you are travelling with children or with a group of mixed abilities, being able to walk back is worth more than any amount of extra space.
Where are the ski lifts in the Chamonix valley?
The skiing is spread along the valley rather than gathered in one place. Chamonix itself has the Brévent and the Aiguille du Midi, Les Praz has La Flégère, Argentière has Les Grands Montets, and Le Tour and Les Houches sit at either end of the valley. The lifts run through the summer too, and staying near one gives you a head start on the day. You do not have to use them, and plenty of walks start from the valley floor, but a lift saves the climb and opens up the higher trails and the balcony paths.
