Some of the best pastries, cakes, breads and obviously baguettes in the world are French — and you can taste them all right here in the Chamonix Valley. From your morning baguette to a mid-afternoon macaron (or three), the town’s bakeries and pâtisseries are reason enough to take a coffee break or two between adventures.

Aux Petits Gourmands

168 Rue du Docteur Paccard, Chamonix

In the heart of Chamonix, Aux Petits Gourmands has long been a favourite stop for anyone who loves beautifully made pastries at fair prices. Their chocolate and coffee éclairs are rich and perfectly balanced, while the tartelette aux framboises (raspberry tart) is a classic done just right — light, fresh, and bursting with flavour.

It’s the perfect place to pause for a treat on the sunny terrace, or to pick up a surprise for your non-skiing other half before heading up the slopes. Inside, glass displays are filled with jewel-like pastries, buttery viennoiseries and handmade chocolates that make choosing almost impossible.

Don’t miss their signature “4810” chocolates, inspired by Mont Blanc and exclusive to Aux Petits Gourmands and Chalet 4810. Packaged elegantly and shaped like mini mountains, they make the perfect edible souvenir — though most people find them too delicious to give away.

Chalet 4810

191 Rue Joseph Vallot, Chamonix

You’ll want to move right in to Chalet 4810, the elegant sister establishment to Aux Petits Gourmands. Set in a beautiful wooden chalet, it’s a space where craftsmanship meets alpine charm — filled with warm light, sparkling crystals, and the irresistible scent of freshly baked pastries.

Here you’ll find some of the finest desserts and souvenir chocolates in Chamonix. Each piece is a little work of art, inspired by local mountains and gems, making them the perfect gift for the mountain lover in your life. The famous “4810” chocolates, shaped like mini Mont Blancs, are available here too — rich, smooth, and beautifully presented.

Every cake, macaron, nougat, pastry and biscuit is made with meticulous attention to detail, and while it’s a touch indulgent, it’s worth every centime. For the full experience, head upstairs to the cosy tea salon, where you can enjoy your chosen treat with an aromatic tea, surrounded by crystals and chalet elegance.

Café Tartine

136 Rue Joseph Vallot, Chamonix

Nestled in the heart of Chamonix, Café Tartine brings a fresh, modern twist to Chamonix’s café and bakery scene. As the name suggests, the menu revolves around their beautifully crafted tartines — open-faced sandwiches served on thick slices of house-baked bread topped with seasonal ingredients and a dash of creativity.

It’s the perfect spot for a relaxed breakfast or a long, lazy brunch, where you can sip your coffee alongside homemade pastries, cakes and cookies that are as photogenic as they are delicious. Their carrot cake and fruit tarts are local favourites, and there’s always a good mix of vegetarian and vegan options too.

Bright, welcoming and full of good energy, Café Tartine is exactly the kind of place you stumble upon once — and then make a point of returning to every visit.

Richard

10 Rue du Docteur Paccard, Chamonix

By far one of the best places in Chamonix for dessert cakes and pâtisserie, Richard is where tradition and creativity meet in the most delicious way. Their window alone is enough to stop you in your tracks — a showcase of colourful, elegant creations that taste every bit as good as they look.

At Chamonix All Year, we order all our birthday cakes from Richard, and with such variety, we’ve yet to have the same one twice (or ever be disappointed). From fruit-topped masterpieces to glossy chocolate indulgences, every slice feels like a celebration.

Don’t leave without trying the regional classic, the Mont Blanc — a soft, sweet mountain of chestnut cream (crème de marron) that’s as much a part of local life as the view of its namesake peak.

You’ll find Richard conveniently located right opposite our Lou Lou Apartment— making it dangerously easy to give in to temptation.

Gâteau & Cacao

98 Rue Joseph Vallot, Chamonix

Taking over the beloved Ancey space, Gâteau & Cacao has brought a fresh touch of creativity to Chamonix’s chocolate scene. Founded by artisan chocolatier Benoît, this elegant boutique is all about fine craftsmanship — from glossy pralines and truffles to delicate pastries and mousses that look almost too beautiful to eat.

Every piece is handmade using carefully sourced ingredients, balancing rich, classic flavours with modern design. Their signature chocolate bars are little works of art, while the seasonal collections make perfect gifts to bring home from the mountains (if they last that long!).

It’s a refined, modern take on traditional French indulgence — a must-visit for anyone who believes good chocolate deserves just as much appreciation as good skiing.

Zanin

84 Avenue Michel Croz, Chamonix

The elegant newcomer to Chamonix’s sweet scene, Zanin Chocolatier brings a touch of haute pâtisserie to the mountains. Step inside and you’re greeted by a counter of glossy tarts, delicate pastries and perfectly tempered chocolates that look as exquisite as they taste.

Zanin’s creations strike a balance between artistry and indulgence — think rich praline domes, silky mousses, and jewel-like bonbons crafted with precision and flair. Each piece is handmade using high-quality ingredients and presented with Parisian-style sophistication, yet the atmosphere remains welcoming and unpretentious.

Whether you’re looking for a refined dessert to share, or a beautifully boxed selection to take home, Zanin is proof that world-class pâtisserie doesn’t just belong in the city — it thrives right here in Chamonix.

Pin Pin

81 Avenue Ravanel le Rouge, Chamonix

Pin Pin Bakery is one of the newest (and most exciting) arrivals on Chamonix’s pastry scene — a small-batch bakery and coffee spot that’s already making a big impression. With a focus on natural ingredients, slow fermentation, and creative flavours, everything here is made with care and a modern touch.

Their sourdough breads are beautifully baked with a crisp crust and open crumb, while the counter tempts with buttery croissants, inventive tarts, and seasonal specials that change weekly. You might find pistachio rolls, lemon poppyseed cakes, or rich chocolate babka — all crafted in-house and presented with understated style.

It’s the kind of place that feels instantly at home in Chamonix: mountain simplicity meets artisan baking. Whether you drop by for a morning pastry and coffee or take away a loaf for your chalet breakfast, Pin Pin Bakery is a name you’ll want to remember.

Moody Coffee Roasters & Couloir

195 Avenue Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix | 204 Avenue Michel Croz, Chamonix

Moody and its sister spot, Couloir, have become part of Chamonix’s daily rhythm — where locals and visitors alike gather for exceptional coffee and a reputation for seriously good pastries.

Their cinnamon rolls have achieved near-legend status: golden, soft, and often still warm, they’re the kind of treat that turns a quick stop into a morning ritual. Both also caters beautifully to modern tastes with a selection of gluten-free and vegan cakes and pastries that never compromise on flavour or texture.

Whether you’re picking up a pre-ski flat white or settling in after a hike, both cafés capture the essence of mountain life: relaxed, creative, and fuelled by something delicious.

Le Fournil Chamoniard

204 Avenue de l’Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix | 21 Chemin de la Resse, Chamonix

Le Fournil Chamoniard has become a staple for locals and visitors in search of truly authentic French baking. Everything is made maison — from the crisp baguettes and buttery croissants to the quiches, tarts and indulgent pastries that fill the counter each morning.

Their baguette sandwiches are legendary in Chamonix: fresh, generously filled, and big enough to fuel a full day on the slopes. The Croque Monsieur is another standout — golden, gooey and rumoured by passing Parisians to be the best in town.

For something sweet, their almond croissant is a must. Coated in toasted almond flakes and chocolate chips, it hides a smooth almond cream inside a perfectly crisp shell. And if you’re after something hearty, try the Viking bread — dense, nutty and ideal for fibre-loading before a mountain adventure.

Le Fournil Chamoniard strikes that perfect balance between quality, value, and French charm — proof that great baking doesn’t need any frills, just passion and good butter.

La Panière

You’ll find a wide selection of fresh pastries, quiches, filled baguettes, savoury snacks and sweet treats, all served quickly and with a smile — and most of the staff speak excellent English, which always helps first thing in the morning.

With its long opening hours and reasonable prices, La Panière is one of the most convenient and economical bakeries in town.
