Your guide to your family holiday in Chamonix
Chamonix is a magical place for a family holiday. The “rooftop of Europe” is a destination like no other to enchant your entire family and leave you with unforgettable memories that you will treasure for many years.
Chamonix in Winter
In winter, Chamonix becomes a winter wonderland, where your little ones can learn to ski or improve their technique, plus there are ever-popular non-ski activities such as husky riding or the winter luge. Ride the traditional Montenvers train and visit the ice cave as well to experience an alien world in the “Sea of Ice”. In the evenings, why not watch the Chamonix ski school instructors taking part in a magical torchlit descent of the slopes or eat out in one of Chamonix’s family-friendly restaurants?
Chamonix in Summer
In summer, there is nowhere more perfect than Chamonix for adventurous kids and teens who want to explore the mountains and try something different for an adrenaline rush. There are activities programmes for different age groups as well as plenty of things for the whole family to do together. We love heading to the family parks in the valley and close by, which are guaranteed to be popular with everyone in your group. For more information, see our Families and kids activity guide.
Family savings – lift passes and more!
Our team has hunted down some great discounts to help your family save money when you travel to Chamonix. In winter and summer, there are huge savings to be had on lift passes – pay for 2 adults and 2 children and up to 3 other children go free*! Book your lift passes on our Chamonix Resort Shop. (*Just pay 3€ per person for handsfree lift pass card.)
What’s on
Our blog often lists many of the upcoming family-friendly events taking place up and down the valley, have a look so you don’t miss out during your stay and keep the whole family entertained. If you’re in need of a break or a “grown-ups night out” during your stay, you can find a recommended babysitter in our childminding guide.
Travelling with children at altitude
Certain precautions should be taken when travelling at altitude with children. It is not advised to take children of less than 3 years old above 2000m. Between 3 and 12 years, sustained effort at more than 2500m is not advised, and between 12 and 18 years, physical exertion above 4000m is not recommended. For reference, the Montenvers train is at 1,913m and the Aiguille du Midi at 3,842m.
