Taking the kids out for a meal can be stressful, if the restaurant doesn’t have a kids menu or if they are not welcoming towards little ones. Fast food is always a sure winner with kids and Chamonix does have its own McDonalds (122 Avenue Michel Croz, 74400, Chamonix) and Subway (215 Avenue Michel Croz, 74400, Chamonix). However during your Chamonix holiday, you might want to eat out and sample some different flavours with your kids. Below is our list of recommendations for the best restaurants in Chamonix where you’re sure to have a great time with even the littlest members of your family.
Restaurants in Chamonix: around the world
Why not help your children to discover some new dishes from around the world, in one of these warm and welcoming restaurants in Chamonix? We have several restaurants serving food from the 4 corners of the world, and here are some of the best to keep the kids happy.
Satzuki
288 Rue Joseph Vallot, 74400 Chamonix
Satzuki is located in the town centre and is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Chamonix valley. Not only that, but you’ll find a special kids’ menu which makes it perfect for families dining out. The prices are affordable and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
The kids’ menu is great value at 12€ and includes a chicken skewer, king prawns in breadcrumbs, salade, rice and ice cream – it’s a great way to introduce your children to flavours from Japan! Adults choose from a varied menu which ranges from hot dishes to sushi; there’s also a set menu at lunchtime at only 10€ which includes a miso soup starter, a main course (chicken, fish or salmon sashimi, with rice and vegetables), followed by tea or coffee. Satsuki also offers a takeaway service if you’d rather explore exotic flavours in the comfort of your Chamonix accommodation.
Chez Yang
17 Rue Docteur Paccard, 74400 Chamonix
If you prefer Chinese to Japanese, then head to Chez Yang instead. Located in the town centre, this restaurant is a wonderful discovery. Authentic Chinese cuisine in the heart of the French Alps, with good quality food, this is one Chamonix restaurant not to miss!
The kids’ menu costs 12€ and includes chicken fritters, fried rice and ice cream. For adults, there is a great variety of dishes on offer, and another great lunchtime special set menu from Monday-Friday. 12€ will get grown-ups a rainbow salad or spring rolls, crispy chicken or sweet-and-sour pork, fried rice and a coffee.
Chez Yang also offers a takeaway service.
Healthier fast-food
Chamonix has some great fast food outlets, where the meals are freshly prepared and healthier than your average.
Poco Loco
47 Rue Docteur Paccard, 74400 Chamonix
Perhaps the most famous burgers in the valley, Poco Loco is sure to please everyone in your family. Their burgers are reasonably priced at 5-7€ with sides including chips, onion rings and fried squid, and they’re perfect for a mid-day stop in the town centre – you will not be disappointed! Not only that, but for hungry teens and parents, you can upgrade to a larger burger for only 1€. Beware though, the portions are already quite large, so smaller tummies might prefer to share.
You can take away from Poco Loco as well. We recommend the American Bacon Cheese and the Chavroux burgers.
Keep the kids entertained
Certain restaurants in Chamonix really do go the extra mile for their youngest clients, to ensure that your whole family has a great time.
The Vert Lodge
964 Rte des Gaillands, 74400 Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
Chamonix’s Hidden Gem for Laid-Back Dining. Tucked away in the lively yet relaxed atmosphere of The Vert Lodge, this cozy restaurant offers a welcoming escape from the bustle of central Chamonix. Popular with locals, mountain guides, and travelers in the know, it combines great food with a friendly, unpretentious vibe.
Whether you’re refueling after a big day on the trails or just looking for a casual spot to catch up over drinks, the menu delivers with hearty, home-style meals and internationally inspired dishes — from gourmet burgers and fresh salads to vegetarian curries and seasonal specials.
Rockypop
1746 Avenue des Alpages, 74310 Les Houches
This new addition to the valley is hard to miss with its name in lights outside, promising that they “will Rockypop you”! The inside has a retro video games theme which nostalgic parents will love as much as kids, and although it’s a hotel, the restaurant is open to non-guests too. Go on a tour of different cultural universes, choosing from burgers, pizzas and traditional French cuisine. It’s a treat for the eyes as well as the taste buds, with burgers prepared in front of you, and the pizzaiolo who twirls his pizza bases to offer dinner and a show!
The Rockykids menu costs 12€ and includes the choice of a cheeseburger, pizza or creamy chicken pasta, with a brownie or ice cream to finish.
The hotel also has a games room so you can play the night away on Tetris, Mario Bros, Pacman, Zela, Sonic and many more.
Another idea…
Sometimes, your kids just don’t want to be stuck inside so on a nice day, why not make the most of the beautiful backdrop and a delicious takeaway to enjoy at lunchtime or as an early evening meal?
Picnic in Parc Couttet
84 Chemin de la Tournette, 74400 Chamonix
During the warmer times of the year, there isn’t much that beats a family picnic in Parc Couttet. Grab a takeaway from one of the restaurants recommended above, or a pizza to eat while the kids play in the park.
In addition to the restaurants above, you can get a takeaway pizza from La Roulotte (414 Rue Joseph Vallot, 74400, Chamonix), Valentino (30 Place Balmat, 74400 Chamonix) or La Casa Valerio (90 Rue du Lyret, 74400, Chamonix). We love this Italian speciality so much, we’ve even written a whole blog dedicated to the best pizzas in Chamonix.
Bon appétit in the restaurants in Chamonix!
