A different way to experience the mountains

Chamonix is known for its skiing, but come summer, the valley transforms into something else entirely. Snow melts to reveal hundreds of kilometres of trails, winding through forests, alpine pastures and high mountain terrain.

For trail runners, it’s one of the most iconic destinations in the world.

Based in Chamonix, Run the Alps has spent years sharing these trails with runners from around the world. Not just through guided trips, but by creating a way to experience the Alps that’s as much about community as it is about running.

Each summer, they bring that idea to life through their dedicated base: Chalet le Tricouni.

One chalet, two experiences

Tucked away in the peaceful area of Les Praz, Chalet le Tricouni is part of the Chamonix All Year portfolio — a spacious, well-equipped chalet designed for year-round stays.

Each summer, however, it takes on a different role.

Run the Alps rents the chalet every summer for the season, transforming it into “The Hub” — a shared base designed specifically for trail runners visiting the Chamonix valley. With staff available in Chamonix year-round, The Hub is also able to offer guests professional, licensed trail running guides— a great addition for runners who appreciate a bit of added safety, would like to explore the valley with an expert, or perhaps pick up a few trail running skills.

The location is a big part of why it works so well. Just minutes from the Flégère lift and close to the valley’s trail network, it offers quick access to some of the best running routes in Chamonix, whether you’re heading towards Brévent, the Grand Balcon Sud, or deeper into the mountains.

Back at the chalet, the setup lends itself perfectly to post-run recovery. A large open-plan living space, a private garden with Mont Blanc views, and a traditional Nordic bath create an environment that’s as much about slowing down as it is about getting out.

More than accommodation: a shared experience

What makes The Hub different isn’t just the setting, it’s how it’s used.

Guests range from first-time trail runners to experienced athletes, all brought together through Run the Alps’ approach: making trail running in the Alps accessible, social and enjoyable, regardless of level.

Because the chalet is exclusively used for their guests during the summer season, it creates a natural sense of community. Mornings might start with shared route planning over coffee, while evenings often end with stories swapped around the table after long days in the mountains.

There’s no pressure to keep up or compete. As Run the Alps founder Doug Mayer explains, it’s not about being “hard-core” — it’s about the experience.

Designed for trail runners, without losing its comfort

One of the reasons Chalet le Tricouni works so well as The Hub is that it doesn’t need to be adapted too much.

Originally designed for group stays, the layout already suits the rhythm of a trail running stay, whether guests are coming for a few days or a week or more. There’s space to gather, space to rest, and practical features like bike and gear storage.

There’s even a Community Manager who lives on premises, to help guests get oriented and provide Chamonix tips and run suggestions. Run the Alps has also added thoughtful additions for their guests, from recovery tools like yoga mats and foam rollers to local knowledge on routes and conditions.

The result is a balance between a fully equipped chalet and a purpose-driven base for exploring the trails.

Perfectly placed for a summer in Chamonix

Running from mid-June to mid-September, The Hub aligns with the peak trail running season. Lifts are open, trails are clear, and events like the UTMB Mont-Blanc and the Mont-Blanc Marathon bring an extra energy to the valley.

For those training, racing, or simply discovering trail running in the Alps, having a dedicated base makes a real difference.

A seasonal transformation that works both ways

At Chamonix All Year, we see our properties used in many different ways throughout the year. Chalet le Tricouni is a great example of that flexibility.

In winter, it’s a private chalet for ski holidays. In summer, through its partnership with Run the Alps, it becomes part of a completely different experience. It centres on trail running, community and time spent in the mountains.

It’s the same place, but used in a way that reflects the season.

Planning your own stay

Chamonix All Year offers a range of apartments and chalets across the valley. Find a stay that fits your plans, whatever the season. Because here, it’s not just about where you stay, but how you experience the mountains, all year round.
