Guest reviews have become one of the most important parts of booking a holiday, especially on platforms like Booking.com, Airbnb and Vrbo.
Today, travellers rely on reviews more than ever, and even small differences in scores can have a big impact. In fact, anything below 4.7/5 is now often seen as “below average”, and these platforms use review scores to decide which properties are shown first — or not shown at all.
So what actually makes a helpful, fair review — and why does it matter so much?
Why your review matters more than ever
Reviews don’t just help future guests, they directly affect small, local businesses like us — and how visible we are on booking platforms.
- A strong overall score helps properties stay visible on booking platforms
- A drop in rating can reduce bookings significantly
- Consistent 5 star reviews are now the baseline, not the exception
Put simply, reviews shape whether a property gets seen — or overlooked.
Booking platforms now hold a huge amount of power. Reviews influence rankings, visibility and ultimately bookings, which means small businesses rely heavily on guest feedback to stay competitive.
The most helpful way to leave a review
If you’ve stayed with us, here’s how you can make your review as useful (and fair) as possible:
1. Share your overall experience
Think about your stay as a whole — from arrival to departure. If you had a great holiday, reflect that in your overall score.
2. Be specific in your comments
Future guests love details. Mention things like:
- Location and views
- Comfort and cleanliness
- Communication and service
- What you personally enjoyed most
3. Tell us what we can improve (the right way)
If something wasn’t perfect, we genuinely want to know! But the best time to tell us is during your stay, so we can fix it straight away.
After your trip, written feedback sent directly to our Reservations Team is the perfect place to share suggestions without it negatively impacting the overall experience score.
Why we sometimes ask for 5⭐ reviews
We’ll be honest: reviews really matter for small businesses.
On platforms like Airbnb, maintaining high ratings (and Superhost status) requires a large percentage of 5 star reviews. Similarly, on Booking.com, a 10/10 score helps reassure future guests and keeps properties competitive.
That doesn’t mean everything has to be perfect. The way review systems work today, a 5 star review usually means “everything met expectations and we had a good stay” — not that everything was exceptional.
A simple way to think about it:
- 5⭐ = met expectations, good stay
- 4⭐ = a few small issues
- 3⭐ = noticeable problems
- 2⭐ = major issues
- 1⭐ = stay not acceptable
→ Because of this, even a 4⭐ review can negatively impact visibility on booking platforms.
Helping us improve your stay
We’d always rather fix an issue while you’re here than read about it after you’ve left.
If something isn’t right:
- Get in touch during your stay
- Give us the chance to put it right
- Let us help you enjoy your holiday fully
Your feedback — both positive and constructive — helps us improve and continue offering the best experience possible in Chamonix.
A final note
Reviews should reflect real experiences and help future travellers make confident decisions.
By taking the time to leave thoughtful feedback, you’re not just reviewing a stay — you’re helping small, local businesses like Chamonix All Year stay visible on booking platforms and helping future guests book with us with confidence.
