Les Grands Montets
Vital Statistics
Departure: 1910m | Highest lift: 3300m
Activities: Hiking, mountaineering, parapenting
Cable cars: 2 | Gondolas: 1
Les Grands Montets in summer offers two totally different experiences: the pastures of Lognan at 1970m and the ice-world of the Glacier d’Argentière up to the summit at 3275m. From the top of the first cable car (Lognan), walk 40 minutes to view some of the most spectacular ice-falls in the Chamonix valley and from the second cable car, mountaineers will depart for some of Chamonix’s most notorious peaks – the Aiguille Verte, the Droites and the Drus. There are some pleasant descents which you can do on foot or mountain bike which can also link up to the ‘Petit Balcon Nord’ for access back to Chamonix.
Note that since September 2018, the cable cars at Les Grands Montets are not available due to fire damage but this area remains accessible by gondola.
