Last week, there was exciting news as it was announced that the final stages of the Tour de France 2016 will be coming to Haute Savoie, with all the action taking part around Chamonix valley and Mont Blanc.

Between 20th and 23rd July, the final battles for the yellow jersey will take place in Switzerland at Emosson Dam, then Sallanches, Megève, Saint Gervais and Morzine, with Chamonix in the heart of the action.

These four stages will be within an hour’s drive of Chamonix, which makes it the perfect place to base yourself to get a piece of the excitement.

The last weeks in July are always popular for Chamonix summer holidays, so make sure you book your accommodation now to avoid disappointment. See all our Chamonix accommodation or find availability for Tour de France 2016.

Emosson dam is a great and popular day out in the summer, with its famous hike to see dinosaur footprints and the funicular railway too.

If you’ve ever been to Chamonix before, you will have passed through Sallanches which is on the route in from Geneva, about 25 mins away from Chamonix. Megève is famous for being a very upmarket winter ski resort, but expect lots of excitement as the tour passes through for the first time ever.

Saint Gervais is home to the start of the Tramway du Mont Blanc, which is included in your Mont Blanc Multipass.

As well as cheering on the cyclists through the various stages, Chamonix also offers much more to make your summer holiday jam-packed with adrenaline, including our popular rafting, canyoning and parapenting summer activities, as well as famous sightseeing to be done too at Aiguille du Midi cable car and Montenvers train. Our Resort Team will be on hand once you book your stay to help you make the most of it, giving advice on how to get around and helping you book other activities too.

If you’ve got the cycling bug after watching the thrilling climb of the Tour de France, then we can help you book a mountain bike outing in a group or with a private guide, and point you in the direction of one of our partners who offer discounts to all our guests on bike hire.

In any case, Chamonix is the home of endurance and extreme sports so the town will be buzzing and full of the action during this exciting time. Find out more about summer holidays in Chamonix.
