June, July & August: Summer at Montenvers

Throughout the summer, the Montenvers station and surrounding area hosts a diverse programme of activities and events to allow you to discover this unique site. These include accordian evenings, opportunities to ride the original old-fashioned trains, evening visits of the ice cave and free, daytime literary events.

Old-fashioned trains

Take this exceptional opportunity to ride one of the original trains of Montenvers. Every Saturday and Sunday from 18th July to 6th September, depart from Chamonix at 11am for a trip back to yesteryear. Lunch is included, as well as your visit to all the usual attractions at the top of Montenvers (ice cave, Glaciorium, crystals gallery etc.).

Prices are 53€ per person for adults (16yrs+) and 33€ for children (4-15 years)*.

Behind the Scenes

Every Wednesday from 15th July to 26th August, take the opportunity to go behind the scenes at Montenvers train station. From just 5€ per person, you’ll be treated to a visit of the workshops in Chamonix town centre, with explanations of how the maintain the trains and tracks of Montenvers in the extreme conditions of winter and summer. Accordian evening

On 16th July and 13th August, enjoy an evening meal at the Hôtel du Montenvers, accompanied by accordian music courtesy of “Les Tuaz”. Get in the mood by riding one of the original Montenvers trains up to the top station.

Evening visits

Visit the glacier at night fall for a new perspective. Accompanied by a glaciologist, visit the ice cave to learn more about France’s largest glacier. Dig in to a giant tartiflette and enjoy the folk music concert in this spectacular setting.

Literary events

If you happen to be visiting Montenvers on 1st or 2nd August, you can also enjoy the open-air literary events that will be taking place. Mountain-loving artists and authors will hold reading and signings at the foot of the Drus.

*Note that there is no reduction in ticket price if you already have a lift pass which includes the Montenvers train e.g. Mont Blanc Multipass.
