12th-14th June: Arc’teryx Alpine Academy
The Arc’teryx Alpine Academy is back for a fourth year in Chamonix, to celebrate alpinism in its spiritual home! Open to anyone with an interest in mountaineering, from beginners to experts, the weekend is packed with workshops, seminars and, of course, activity clinics.
In 2014, over 400 participants of more than 20 nationalities came together in Chamonix, including professional athletes and mountain guides from British Mountain Guides and Compagnie des Guide de Chamonix.
Courses on offer include acclimatisation clinics, high altitude mountaineering, alpine photography, ice climbing, crevasse rescue and navigation, and there are clinics tailored to every level. There are also repair stations and the options to try out demo gear from leading outdoor brands.
Friday evening offers an evening of seminars which will cover a range of topics, from medical information, equipment know-how, tour planning and more. On Saturday night, don’t miss the Alpine Movie Night. The leading athletes of the alpine world will present their latest films at a free screening, held at the Aiguille du Midi cable car base station.
Note that all clinics are sold out – cancellations and free spaces will be communicated via Facebook.
Bonus free activity: on 11th June, participate in a mountain clean-up day on the Grand Balcon Nord (Plan de l’Aiguille to Montenvers). Help keep the mountains of Chamonix pure while acclimatising to the altitude at approx. 2000m. All volunteers will receive a free lift pass from Compagnie du Mont Blanc for the return journey, as well as a sponsored lunch package. You just need to be used to hiking for around 4 hours.
